On Comparing My Childhood To My Grand-Daughter's Childhood

Fashion
When I see visit my grand-daughter, I can't help but think that she is a lot more sophisticated than me when I was her age. She has her own computer, she's very discerning with her fashion (she keeps going on about her Oilily bags to me!) too.
I was raised during the depression, and believe me there were few toys and games, and they only appeared at Christmas. What we got was wonderful and it lasted a long time. Usually the toys were from the dime store and there was the usual coloring book, crayons, and a doll. Sometimes we got a game, but not often. But the gift I recall as the most fun and lasted the longest was a game called "Pick Up Sticks". We could play this game for hours. Let me tell you how it was played. There were about 41 very slender sticks in a can. There were 10 yellow, 10 orange, 10 blue, 10 red and 1 purple one. Each color had a different value, your job to get the best score. How to play, take all of the sticks in your hand, tap them till they were even, hold them about five inches from the table and let them go. When landed they were all in a pile. You would then pick up all sticks that were not connected or laying on each other. Then using one of the sticks you would try and lift from the pile without making it collapse. When you did cause the pile to move, you counted the colored sticks and got your score, and the play moved to the next person. This went around until all the sticks were gone, you added your score, and hoped you won. By the way if you got the purple stick you were almost a sure winner.
